Well the great day arrived and I did it! The first 40km are in the bag.

How did it go I hear you ask: well while the saddle sores are not a problem (YET!) my feet ache like crazy. Better footwear is clearly required.

My Apple Watch is a great motivator. By the end of my first 40km it informed me I’d burnt off 320 calories. Very useful information, especially so as I quickly calculated that was enough to devour a Mars Bar! Sadly, I was too exhausted to bother partaking of said treat.

Day 2 not only promises to bring another 40km but it’s also shopping day! So if you want to share my pure delight at plundering the salad aisle join me here again tomorrow for another update.
